Uniforms and Handbooks

What uniform items does my scout need? How much does it cost? Which guidebook will me scout need?

Cub Scout uniforms depend on their rank. Each rank has their own uniform items, however the uniform shirt will usually last several ranks (depending on how fast your scout grows). Handbooks are one per year in Cub Scouts, except Webelo/Arrow of Light. BSA Scouts have one handbook for all of their ranks.

You can order your uniforms directly from BSA Scout Shop or from the Golden Gate Area Council when Pack 47/Troop 47 places an order (free shipping).

We understand that finances can be tight and purchasing all of these items right after paying dues can be a hardship. Pack 47 follows the Do Your Best motto. We understand that it takes time to get these things and we will do our best to accommodate your scout until these items can be acquired. You can use Scoutbook to help as a handbook until your scout has one. The handbook does offer more information for completing the activities, but Scoutbook can tell you the requirements to complete the activities.

Adult Leadership

The Boy Scouts of America takes great pride in the quality of our adult leadership. Being a leader in the BSA is a privilege, not a right. The quality of the program and the safety of our youth members call for high-quality adult leaders.

To become an adult leaders with the BSA, those who are willing must complete several steps to become qualified. Here are the steps that all adult leaders in our units have completed to earn the privilege of leading our youth.

Youth Protection Training

Youth Protection Training (YPT) is the first step. YPT is required for all BSA registered volunteers and is a joining requirement. Youth Protection training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be re-registered.

The BSA has developed the YPT with many professionals in the youth protection industry. It is aimed at preventing abuse and reporting abuse.

New leaders will need a BSA online account to take YPT. This step must be completed before applying to any BSA units.

New Leaders:
– Visit: https://my.scouting.org
– Create a profile if you don’t already have one.
– Click My Training.
– Take the YPT.
– Submit a copy of your certificate to the Pack/Troop leader.

Mandated Reporter Training

California requires all adult leaders involved in youth organizations to complete the Volunteer Reporter Training. Who needs the training:

• All Regular Volunteer positions identified as requiring training shall complete training beginning January 1, 2022.
• Regular Volunteer means a volunteer with the BSA who is 18 years of age or older and who has direct contact with, or supervision of, children more than 16 hours per month or 32 hours per year.
• Complete California Mandated Reporter Training (2 hours)

New Leaders:
– Visit: https://mandatedreporterca.com/training/volunteers
– Complete the training. Save a copy of your state Mandated Reporter Training Certificate.
– Download, print and fill out a Background Consent Form.
– Submit your Certificate and filled out Background Consent Form to the Crater Lake Council online here: https://californiascouting.org/crater-lake/
– Submit a copy of your certificate to the Pack/Troop leader.

    Live Scan Background Check

California requires all adult leaders involved youth organizations to complete a Live Scan Background Check. The Live Scan provides a DOJ and FBI background search. The information gathered from this background check goes directly to the Crater Lake Council’s Custodian of Record. The information does not come to the local units. Any applicants with backgrounds that are questionable can be denied or the Council may ask for additional clarification.

    New Leaders:
    – Download and print the Live Scan Form: https://californiascouting.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/CLC-live-Scan-Form.pdf (It is critical that you use our Council’s Live Scan form, as it includes our Council’s routing information for your background check.)
    – Fill out the Applicant Section of the form. Don’t forget to sign and date the form.
    – Find a Live Scan location: https://oag.ca.gov/fingerprints/locations?county=Humboldt (Note: the fee for Live Scan service varies by location and some locations require an appointment.)
    – Take the filled out form to the Live Scan location, pay the fee, and complete your Live Scan.
    – Let your Pack/Troop leaders know you’ve completed this step.
